For years, I have been interested in collecting and smoking Dunhill pipes. During this time, I have been an avid follower of the late John C. Loring, his collections, and his writings on the subject of Dunhill pipes. I have also tried to collect all of the published Dunhill catalogs. Despite the occasional listings of Dunhill pipe shapes in various catalogs, books and on the web, I had yet to come across a single complete list of published Dunhill pipe shapes. Thus, the impetus for the current listings.
The tables below follow a set pattern for each shape entry. First, the shape category is listed in bold, then, for each entry, I have provided the shape number, a short descriptor, group number estimate, size (inches), catalog presence, and the modern shape number equivalent.

rebornpipes 
just in case its of use to anyone, there is a dunhill RL pot – near as i can tell it seems to be a regular R with a bit of extra length. the example i have is a group 4 1967 shell with a tapered bit, length wise its 5.8″ ish. did a fair bit of googling regarding the shape and couldnt find any other RLs.
if the author chances upon this, thank you for this website – your work helped me learn my way around bringing old estate pipes back to life. be well.

Your work putting together this shape list and sharing it with us is both phenomenal and generous. I only have one point, and please take it with the respect intended if you even read it at this late date: I have spent a long time figuring out the date of a rustic Canadian with nomenclature that begins with your “quaint shape” letter code EC but has the GB Patent No. 417574/34. My research shows the Patent was issued in 1934, hence the /34. How could it be a 1928 pipe? Or did I misunderstand, and you meant that EC shaped pipes started in 1928? Based on the other nomenclature, I came up with 1954 as the year of manufacture (1950 + the small underlined 4). If you get this, please email Steve so he can forward any clarification you can provide, in particular what if anything EC stands for, to me. Thanks again for the exceptionally good job!

I just acquired a beautiful mint condition P shaped bent rhodesian but had a question about the specific stamp. It’s marked “P + 4”. I’m wondering if you happened to know what this means instead of just a plain P stamping?

This is the most complete chart of Dunhill shape numbers I have seen. Thanks to Eric and Steve for making the info available. I have recently been asked to make a Dunhill 51779, which was identified as a Tankard with Canadian oval shank and tapered bit. The bowl tapers outward from the base to the rim, which I would classify as Dublin, but has a squared off at rear Poker foot. Luckily I was given a picture so I can duplicate it, but I would really like to know what Dunhill called this shape. I can provide pics of this pipe, if anyone is interested.

I just bought a 1963 Shape 552 Bruyere, but I don’t find that number on any Dunhill chart. The seller called it a Rhodesian, I would say it is an Author. I can’t find anything on the web on this shape number, any thoughts?

I checked the Lorings files first, but there are only blank columns for shapes 521-570. I’d love to know what this shape was called by Dunhill.

With regard to Letter Shapes let me add, that I was having in my collection Dunhill pipe with following nomenclature:
42 CY, DUNHILL SHELL, MADE IN ENGLAND 16.
I was informed, that this CY designation is rare and I was told it is not longer used. I believe it was used for what would later become quaint or collector shapes which do not fit the shape chart precisely. I do not have this pipe anymore, but I keep some pictures which I will gladly mail to an interested Person.
